The renewed MPS-ABC certification standard (and the accompanying record-keeping environment) is one of the first standards that meets the requirements of the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI) with regard to the new third basket of ‘Good Environmental Practices’, in which requirements in the field of safeguarded environmental records are included.

FSI’s “Basket of Standards” is becoming increasingly important for retail, for example. “For example, retailers often do not have time to delve into the bulk of sustainability labels. That is why FSI has been benchmarking with Good Agricultural Practice and Good Social Practice since 2013”, says Jeroen Oudheusden, Executive Officer FSI. The standards that came through positively are included in the FSI Basket of Standards. So a third basket has recently been added: Good Environmental Practices. Of course, MPS has been meeting the FSI requirements with MPS-GAP and MPS-SQ since its inception and MPS-ABC is one of the few standards that has already been accepted with regard to the new basket of Good Environmental Practices. Oudheusden: “The great thing about the basket is that buyers, for example, no longer need to know all the labels specifically. They can use the standards in the FSI basket as a reference.”

Of course we are very proud to be one of the first standards to be benchmarked with the latest requirements and to be represented in all three baskets of FSI as one of the few standards. We look forward to a transparent and sustainable further cooperation!
